Typical signs

These signs point to an infestation. On the phone, we help you assess what you have found.

  • Shiny silver, quick

The insects are about one centimetre long, scaly, wingless and have three fine tail filaments.

  • At night in damp rooms

They scurry away when you switch on the bathroom light at night. During the day they hide in joints and under skirting boards.

  • Damp spots nearby

They gather near wet joints, dripping traps or water stains behind furniture.

  • Hardly any visible damage

Unlike grey silverfish, they usually cause no noticeable damage. Above all, they are a sign of high humidity.

Useful facts about silverfish

Silverfish are among the oldest insects of all. They feed on skin flakes, hair, mould and starchy scraps and thrive in high humidity and warmth.

They live for several years and lay their eggs well hidden in joints and cracks. As long as it stays damp there, the population quietly keeps growing.

If you keep seeing them in the bathroom at night, there is usually a damp problem in the background. Without looking at this cause, the insects come back after every treatment. That is why we combine targeted baits with the search for the source of damp.

How it works

From your call onwards, we take over – step by step.

  1. You call us

You describe in which rooms you see the insects and how often. With a photo we check whether they really are silverfish.

  2. On-site inspection

The specialist looks for hiding places and damp spots, checks joints, drains and ventilation and estimates how large the population is.

  3. Targeted treatment

Where needed, bait is placed precisely in gaps. You find out which source of damp is behind the infestation.

What you’ll want to know before calling

Honest answers to the questions almost everyone asks. We are happy to clarify anything else in person.

What does it cost?

Our prices are transparent and fair. Give us a call – we will discuss your situation and the next steps.

Is it safe for children and pets?

Baits are placed in gaps and behind skirting boards, where children and pets cannot reach them. You will be told in advance what to look out for.

Will it stay discreet?

Yes. We arrive in neutral, unmarked vehicles and make sure your case is handled discreetly, so that outsiders notice nothing of the infestation.

How long does it take?

The inspection and treatment usually take a few hours. You will see noticeably fewer insects after a few weeks, especially as the rooms get drier.

Questions about silverfish

Your question isn’t listed?
Ask us directly: 043 508 75 29

Are silverfish dangerous?

No. They do not sting or bite and do not transmit diseases. But they do show that a room is too damp.

Why do you almost only see them at night?

Silverfish avoid light and dry air. During the day they stay in joints and cavities and only go looking for food in the dark.

Where do silverfish come from?

They often live unnoticed in the building for a long time, for example in wall joints or service shafts. They become visible when it is damp and warm enough.

Do silverfish have anything to do with mould?

They also eat mould and love the same damp conditions. That is why, during the inspection, we also look out for damp spots and mould.
