Stone martens often live very close to people. In the loft they find peace and warmth, and in the engine compartment of parked cars a sheltered hiding place.
A marten climbs skilfully up downpipes, façades and overhanging branches and squeezes through surprisingly small gaps under roof tiles. Once it has found a spot, it defends it against other martens and keeps coming back to it.
Because martens are wild animals, this is not about pest control but about deterrence: driving the animal out, finding the entry points and securing them so that it does not come back. Doing things in the right order matters, so that no animal is shut in under the roof.
