Cockroaches, also known as roaches, are nocturnal and hide during the day in warm, damp cracks behind kitchen appliances and in bathrooms. In Swiss homes, the German cockroach is the most common species.
A female carries her egg case with her until the nymphs are almost ready to hatch. As a result, a population grows quickly in warm kitchens, and the eggs stay well protected for a long time.
If you see a cockroach during the day, the infestation is often already larger. Shop-bought spray usually just spreads them further. Bait placed in the right spots, on the other hand, also reaches the cockroaches in their hiding places.
